HDST is part of a large variety of swimming opportunities offered at the Haines Swimming Pool. We are a competitive swim team - focusing on a fun team-oriented atmosphere.

New Swimmers
New swimmers must register with US Swimming prior to their first practice. HDST will provide all forms. Swimmers coming to practice without current registration will not be able to practice with the team.

Try Outs
Try outs are held in the fall and winter. A try out can also be made by appointed before or immediately after practice. To arrange a try out, contact Coach Steve.

Criteria for C-squad*
Swimmers must be able to complete 25-yards of freestyle with rotary breathing (side-breathing) and 25-yards of backstroke. Those unable to complete a try out will be referred to the Pre-C squad or the lessons program.

 

Criteria for Pre-C squad*

The criteria for Pre-C is to comfortably swim the width of the pool (without stopping) using any stroke.

*Squad space is limited and acceptance onto the Pre-C and C-squad is at coaches discretion.

The Squads

The Dolphins Swim Team is divided into multiple squads: Gold, Silver, A, B C, Pre-C and XTS. Each squad is based on skill level and experience.

The Pre-C squad helps those swimmers interested in joining the team but maybe don't have all the technique down. This group is a great bridge between lessons and swim team.

The C-squad are for novice swimmers still learning the basics of practice structure and stroke technique. The B-squad is a more advanced novice group, with many of its members having competitive swimming experience.

The A-squad is for swimmers who have mastered the basics of all four strokes and are ready for increased training and technique refinement.

The Silver and Gold squads are more competition focused with specific performance criteria required.

New Cross Training Squad (XTS)
The Dolphins have added a new squad. The Cross Training Squad (XTS) will be for registered HDST swimmers who are participating in either a CYD sport or a High School Sport. Those on the XTS can come to two practices a week (any day) while they are actively involved with their other sport.

Placement into squads is under the discretion of the coaching staff.

Dues

The Dolphins are currently a seasonal team, swimming from September through April. Dues are paid by the 10th of each month and are as follows:
