Steve began competitive swimming at the age of 5. He was a regular participant at the Junior Olympics and made his first zone appearance at the age of 10. He received a scholarship for swimming and academics at Ashland College in Akron, Ohio (NCAA Div II).
Steve began his coaching career with the Midnight Sun Swim Team in Fairbanks Alaska, where he was the Head Novice Coach. He became the Head Coach of the Haines Dolphins in August 2004.
"Swimming helps builds life skills like goal setting, dedication and self-discipline. I love introducing this sport to kids. With the younger kids, I incorporate a lot of games to help keep the learning fun."
